Welcome to week one of the Parks and Rec Crochet Along!
Feel free to take a short, celebratory break-dancing break. I’ll wait.
Parks and Recreation Crochet Along
Before we start this sacred crochet along I have one question for you:
Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?
If you answered “People are idiots” you get a virtual waffle from JJ’s diner heaped with complimentary imaginary whipped cream.
Week one is breakfast food! Bacon and eggs for Ron and waffles for the beloved Leslie Knope, of course.
I tried something totally different with this panel that I had never done before – hand stitched details. Working in small graphs like this is really limiting. There’s only so much you can do with 25×25 pixels.
The eggs and bacon both use yarn-sewn details. Then I lost my mind and decided instead of changing colors in my waffles I would stitch all the details. I had regrets. Lol. I do like how it turned out but it was a lot of work. If I had to do it again I’d probably just go with crocheting the color changes. You don’t have to do all that waffle work, though.
Yarn
I’m using Red Heart Soft throughout the CAL. I love the finished drape of this yarn, it’s not so scratchy, and it doesn’t split a lot like similar yarns.
In this panel I used
- wheat
- toast
- white
- wine
- tangerine
In my graph legends I don’t used brand specific colors so “wheat” and “toast” become “light brown” and “dark brown”, etc. That way you can use whatever yarn you darn well please.

Happy Crocheting!
