Microwaveable crochet bowl cozies had their moment in 2018 and I thought they were a brilliant idea. After searching for the perfect free pattern for a bowl cover that would fit my Corelle dinnerware I finally decided to just design my own. This free pattern is easy enough for a beginner and works up quickly so that you’ll have the perfect bowl cozy in just 12 rounds.

Microwaveable Bowl Cozies Pattern

I don’t know if it’s a southern thing or what but everybody and their Grandma has Correlle dishes where I come from. They’re light, durable, and come in heaps of patterns. Plus, the dinnerware sets come in standard dimensions so my bowls are the same size as Aunt Susie’s.

When I first saw crochet bowl covers trending I loved the idea. We microwave things all the time and are constantly dealing with the dreaded “hot bowl” syndrome. Oatmeal, grits, and spaghettios are a regular occurrence around here.

So I hopped on Pinterest to find a free pattern for bowl cozies but became frustrated when multiple crochet patterns didn’t begin to fit my Corelle bowls. Enter me.

These work up so quickly and not only make a great addition to your kitchen but I think would sell well at local markets and craft fairs.  Keep scrolling for the free pattern and video tutorial or purchase the ad-free PDF in my shop or with the button below.

Materials

  • One small 2.5 oz ball of cotton yarn (I used Peaches and Cream in Rosemary)
  • 4.25 mm G hook ( I use the one from this set )
  • Scissors
  • Needle for weaving in ends (my fav!)

Stitches used:

  • magic circle
  • slip stitch
  • half double crochet
  • single crochet (back loop only)

Note: Always Ch 1 at the beginning of a row. Join each row with a slip stitch to the first stitch of the row.

Beginning in magic circle (if unfamiliar with magic circle, chain 3 and slip stitch to first chain to create circle):

R1: 10 HDC in circle

R2: 2 HDC in each st around. (20 sts)

R3: HDC in first st, 2 HDC in next st. Repeat pattern around. (30sts)

R4: HDC in first 2 sts, 2 HDC in next st. Repeat pattern around. (40 sts)

R5: HDC in first 3 sts, 2 HDC in next st. Repeat pattern around. (50 sts)

R6: HDC in each st around. (50 sts)

R7: HDC in first 9 sts, 2 HDC in next stitch. Repeat pattern around. (55 sts)

R8: HDC around. (55sts)

R9: HDC in first 10 sts, 2 HDC in next stitch. Repeat pattern around. (60 sts)

R10: HDC around. (60 sts)

R11: HDC in first 11 sts, 2 HDC in next st. Repeat pattern around. (65 sts)

R12: SC in back loop only around. (65 sts)

Cut yarn, weave in ends. Easy peasy!
